I came early to Prague so I could adjust to the time change
before I joined the group on the 11th. (I’m starting a MFA in Writing for Children
and Young Adults since I am working on my own YA sci-fi (light) series and the
summer residencies are in different parts of the world each year.)

Since I have to meet the group tomorrow, I figured I’d finally better look up the hotel and see how far away it was to get an idea of
how long a taxi ride it would be. I
looked at the map on that hotel’s website and thought, “Gee, that street looks
like the one that I’m on right now. And, is that the mall I went to today on
the hotel map?” Well, it turns out that
the other hotel is a block away.
Seriously. Not even a big
block. The distance I had to walk from
my car to my office this past year was three or four times as far as the
distance to the new hotel. I laughed
when I looked at the schedule and realized we’re eating dinner tomorrow night
at my current hotel! (I wonder if they’ll serve that same bacon for dinner…)
Tomorrow I’ll just need to figure out how to lug all my
stuff a block on cobblestones. It wasn’t
too bad dragging it all around at an airport with smooth surfaces but uneven
paths aren’t quite the same thing. I
plan on doing two trips…one with my huge bag and another with the other
stuff. I went into the other hotel’s
lobby this evening and double-checked to make sure that I hadn’t misread the
address. Sure enough, it was the right
hotel. They have a luggage storage area
so I can put my bag there even if I can’t check in right away.
I walked into a variety of shops this evening. Didn’t buy anything but figured I’d come back
at another time to explore some of them more in detail. Also found an interesting trio of food places
in a food court nearby. I’m going to try
one of them for lunch tomorrow (a
Japanese place and a Mexican plan…can’t remember the third one.) Yum!
All my Google stuff was in Czech... until I found the option to make it in English. Wikipedia also was in Czech until I made that change. |
Not so random thing I Googled today – How to dry an iPhone
when you don’t have rice. So, in spite
of the awesomeness of the bathroom, it has one of those glass doors that doesn’t
go all the way across. The door
basically just blocks the brunt of the shower water but still leaves the rest
of the (huge) tub opened to the bathroom. Anyway, I placed my iPhone face down last night on an area that got a
little wet and didn’t realize it until I picked it up later. It still works but there are water spots
inside the panel now. I showed the person at the Apple store today but he said I'd have to send it in for repair. Let's hope that it didn't get totally soaked.

Would love a photo of your hotel.
Hope your phone dries out ok.
Enjoying your trip vicariously.
So, Pictures are all from my phone (why worry about a camera when I have a camera phone...of course the whole iPhone-getting-wet thing wasn't really part of the plan.) Assuming it still holds up, then I'll try to post more photos tomorrow. :)
