Prague Blog #10 – Last Day in Prague

Super long escalator...
Picture doesn't really
do it justice

Today I used the metro by myself and didn’t get lost.  Woohoo!  I realized that I hadn’t actually been to Wenceslas Square but the Old Town Square.  Anyway, I took the metro and it had this really, really long escalator to get down to it.  It reminded me of Dupont Circle’s escalator in DC.  I felt like I was coming down with vertigo as I kept trying to lean further back to counteract the feeling that I was going to fall and roll down and down and down and down…
Wenceslas Square - Fuzzy.  Sorry.

Anyway, the Wenceslas Square was cool and seemed more modern than the Old Town Square…hmm, perhaps there is something about the name of the older one that could provide a clue there.   There were some street performers that were doing…well, I’m not quite sure what they were doing.  There were whips involved.

Other random stuff:

There are cobbled streets and sidewalks everywhere.  Some are small square stones.  Some are larger brick-type stones. Some are more rounded or smooth.  I took a couple of pictures to show you.

Palladium Mall
Check out the "California" food
I finally went into the grocery store at the bottom of the mall that other people had been using.  A bottle of water was only 15 koruna ($.70) compared to 35 ($1.50) at an inexpensive food place, 85($4ish)  at some other places and over 100 ($5+) at fancy restaurants.   I was very proud of myself for using some of the coins to pay for the waters.  (I tend to use the bills better because I don’t want to fumble with the coins.)  I gave exact change.  Yeah me!
At the mall there is a Sante Fe restaurant that serves “California” food.  Including a dish called “San Diego” and another called “Coronado.”  I don’t know.  Fried food like in the photos doesn’t seem very California-ish.  I picture more fish tacos.

Tomorrow we head on a bus to Berlin.  I have technically crammed all my belongings into the same number of bags that I came with.  Of course, I haven’t packed my pillow, PJs, and toiletries.  I have also left the Kafka book out in case there is no room for it.  (I have an e-copy on my phone if needed.) We’ll see if there is room for it.

Off to go rest so I can wake up on time to have breakfast before heading out.
